Metric Manager

Overview
Metric Manager is a Manager of Managers for Availability & Performance based data. Metric Manager can capture metrics via Pollers or Collectors. Collectors allow Metric Manager to capture information from current tools already in use. There are many benefits to this approach – Top N newspaper style reporting, a consistent user interface for all of your key metric points, integration of this data into Monolith's Dashboard Engine.

The Challenge
Metrics are critical indicators of how well our systems and our people are performing. We all understand the need to capture, analyze and report on these metrics. The challenges are many however. Does the data we need exist? Is it located in one system or many systems? My data is stored as bits but I need it as bytes. My system stores the data for a full 24 hours each day, but I only want my calculations based upon business hours.

Let's suppose that your network availability metrics are stored in HP NNM, your server performance stats are in Microsoft MOM and your network utilization metrics are in Concord NetHealth. Your boss asks your to deliver a daily, weekly and monthly report of the Top 25 worst offenders. It's hard to image where to even start.

Monolith has pollers that will collect your data as well. The difference is – we can also leverage your investment in your existing tools. Ours is not a rip and replace value proposition. If your other system is doing a good job collecting the data you need, then keep it. Use Metric Manager to provide custom reports that your current system cannot provide. Perhaps of more interest – use Metric Manager to retrieve information from a variety of tools in order to create a consolidated report of your IT system health.

Another good use for Monolith Metric Manger is to serve as your organizations CDB or Capacity Management Database. ITIL calls for a centralized CDB that allows your organization to build the most cost effective system to meet the performance requirements or your organization.

Configuring and deploying performance management solutions has never been a trivial task. Monolith Metric Manager brings unprecedented ease of configuration to the market. Metric Manager has an extensive out-of-the-box auto-discovery and auto-configuration engine.

Monolith's device discovery engine automatically finds and types discovered devices. Metric Manager will utilize this discovery to automatically deploy polling templates and set pre-defined threshold policies. Discovery features include regmatch device name, instance name, custom meta tag, IP range, Device Type and Device Category.
